Biographisches
Seinen Ph.D. in Soziologie erwarb er 1976 an der University of Chicago. Seit diesem Jahr lehrte er als Assistant Professor am Department of Sociology, University of California, Berkeley. 1982 arbeitete er als Associate Professor am Department of Sociology, University of Wisconsin-Madison, sowie am Department of Sociology, University of California, Berkeley. Seit 1988 ist er Full Professor am Department of Sociology in der University of California, Berkeley.
