Emma Dowling arbeitet zur Finanzialisierung des Wohlfahrtsstaats und der Externalisierung der sozialen Kosten reproduktiver Arbeit. Dabei vergleicht sie unterschiedliche nationale Kontexte. Während ihres Aufenthalts befasst sie sich mit Fragen nach alternativen im Bereich der sozialen und ökologischen Reproduktion, die nicht markt- und wachstumsabhängig sind. Sie arbeitet außerdem an der Fertigstellung einer Monographie.
