Symposium on the 200th Birthday of Karl Marx in Jena

From May 3 to 6, 2018, the city of Jena, together with the Friedrich Schiller University, is hosting a symposium on the 200th birthday of Karl Marx entitled 'Of Ghosts and Divided Skies: Ideas of a Just Society after Marx.'

As a research group, we will participate in two events on May 5: in the morning 'Social Analysis after Marx: What's Wrong with Capitalism?', which includes lectures and a discussion with Klaus Dörre, Stephan Lessenich, and Hartmut Rosa, and in the afternoon a panel discussion with political activists from Greece, the Netherlands, Switzerland, and Brazil on the possibilities of left-wing politics today. This will include Ana Alvarenga de Castro (Brazil), Sam Bakker (GroenLinks, the Netherlands), Beat Ringger (Switzerland Think Network), and Panagiotis Sotiris (LAE Greece).

In addition, Los Profes(s)ores will unite for a concert for Marx's birthday: on May 4 they will celebrate under the motto 'Dance the Karl'. Present will be Michael Beetz, Tobias Franzheld, Robert Jende, Christoph Köhler, Stephan Lessenich, Tilman Reitz, and Hartmut Rosa, and featuring special guest Silke Silhouette. The detailed program with all discussions, exhibitions, theater performances, art events, and films can be found at www.marx-jena.de.
